The Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Act
A victory for wild animals!
Trophy hunting is the practice of killing animals and displaying them as trophies on a wall. This frequently debated topic can create polarising views and debates, but by far the majority of the British public wanted to see a ban on trophy hunting and especially the UK’s role in this blood sport.
WITH YOUR HELP, WE FINALLY MADE IT HAPPEN
HERE’S HOW:

FOUR PAWS UK joined the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting coalition alongside many other animal welfare organisations, calling for a ban on imports of hunting trophies
We delivered a co-signed letter to 10 Downing Street calling for a ban, and attended a march in memory of Cecil the lion, a majestic lion killed by an American trophy hunter

During the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of you showed your support for ending the trade by calling on the then Prime Minister Boris Johnson to #GetTheBanDone

We launched an e-action calling on MPs to support legislation to ban the import of hunting trophies, and attended several demonstrations with other animal welfare charities and supportive cross-party MPs

We attended Parliamentary events to show our support for the ‘Animals Abroad’ Bill, alongside celebrities, Government ministers and animal behaviourists

We created an e-action and demonstrated outside of Parliament alongside other animal welfare charities calling on the Government to uphold their legislative promises and make sure they #DontBetrayAnimals
In June, Henry smith MP introduced the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Private Members Bill into Parliament, with Government backing

By October, we were at the Labour and Conservative party conferences to tell MPs that #AnimalsMatter and urge the new Government not to deprioritise animal welfare
In November, the Bill successfully passed its Second Reading with cross-party support
In January, the Bill successfully passed the Committee Stage with no amendments, which was a huge relief!

We launched an e-action, which resulted in over 5,600 supporters calling on their MPs to support the Report Stage and Third Reading of the Bill in March and saw the Bill successfully sail through to the House of Lords.
In ???, the Bill passes successfully through the House of Lords with no contest
On ???, the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Act achieves Royal Assent, meaning that it will become law.
We did it! And all thanks to your help!
