Tiger Laziz in his species appropriate enclosure

Tiger Laziz

Tiger Laziz was born at Khan Younis Zoo in Gaza-Middle East in 2007 where he was held in a small concrete cage.

The desolation and scale of human suffering because of armed conflicts is an extremely devastating sight. Animals in captive environments are entirely at the mercy of human care and when disaster such as armed conflicts strike, the scale of animal suffering is unimaginable. This is the story of Laziz.

Tiger Laziz was born at Khan Younis Zoo in Gaza-Middle East in 2007 where he was held in a small concrete cage. He was the only Big Cat left in the zoo after it was partly destroyed by bombs during the conflict between Israel and Gaza in 2014. Many animals died either directly from the attacks or afterwards from starvation, as did Laziz’s partner.

After years of suffering in a desolate cage, starvation, lack of fresh water and constant fear, FOUR PAWS finally managed to persuade the owner of the zoo to hand over the animals and close the establishment. Laziz arrived at his forever home at LIONSROCK in 2016. The pool is where he spends most of his time in his favourite spot.
