Lionesses Carla and Frida during enrichment

Lionesses Carla and Frida

Two lionesses share a bond forged by fate.

In the heart of LIONSROCK, two lionesses Carla and Frida share a bond forged by fate. Their stories, speak of survival, compassion, and the enduring nature of sanctuary.

Carla, born in 2005, took her first breath within these very grounds. Hand-raised by the previous owner, she grew up under the African sun.

Frida, privately bought from a Romanian zoo, paced the confines of captivity. But as her form outgrew human handling, her fate hung in the balance. The owner’s plea reached FOUR PAWS and served as a lifeline for Frida.

On December 5, 2005, Frida arrived at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary. Here, the species-appropriate enclosure stretched wide and brought the much-needed comfort that the lioness yearned for.

Carla and Frida two lionesses, their stories now etched in LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary as they now roam side by side.
